Foster and Partners 2004

The Sage Gateshead is a dramatic application of Foster's innovation with irregular glass domes, this one forming a very large and friendly caterpillar along the Gateshead side of the River Tyne, opposite the center of Newcastle.

Due to open in the winter of 2004/05, the Sage will be a "pioneering international centre for music and musical discovery", supported by "the largest Arts Lottery grant ever given outside London in any artform."

How to visit

The Sage is part of the Gateshead Quays development, on Gateshead's South Shore Road. It can easily be reached from the center of Newcastle via the (pedestrian) Gateshead Millennium Bridge. The nearest Metro stop, on the Newcastle side of the Tyne, is Manors (though Monument and Newcastle Station are only a short walk).

At the time of writing the building was still under construction. For updated information please visit The Sage's web site at www.thesagegateshead.com
